ECHI
NOIDEA

ECHINOIDEA [É›kɪˈnɔɪdɪə / Echinos =“spiky” ] is part of series of spatial light installations in collaboration with Marie Alice Wolfszahn, comprising illuminated glass tubes that pierce through obstacles and matter within post-apocalyptic sceneries.

The light effects undergo progressive animations that illustrate the “pulse” of each tube or the “swarm behaviour” of a grouped composition. With their light tube series, the artist duo explores hypothetical futures where technology is autarchic and has become the artist itself; where nature has been reimagined and replaced by its abstraction. Every epoche dreams of the one to follow.

ECHINOIDEA, which takes its name from the most abundant phylum of mollusks, was conceived in a world where humans have disappeared but technology maintains its artificial life. The piece emerges in a dark setting, gliding in sync through space to represent an interconnected network within a seemingly lifeless environment.
